Dog License Info

Dog license fees can be seen at http://www.foccas.org/ on the Shelter Fees page. Please remember to have available the necessary paperwork and payment no matter how you purchase a dog license i.e. in person at the shelter office or by mail. One year dog license must be renewed by July 1st of each year. Three year licenses expire when the rabies vaccination expires.

Dog license fees are cheaper if your animal is spayed or neutered. It's also cheaper if you have to retrieve your dog from the animal shelter if they should ever be picked up. A dog that is not spayed or neutered and does not have a dog license will cost you about $90 to get him out. Best scenario - get your dog fixed, get a current rabies vaccination, get a dog license - and put it ON the dog and get a name tag for him. Good stuff in all cases.

County Animal Ordinance Approved

On Tuesday April 5, 2011 the Colusa County Board of Supervisors approved an ordinance that states all dogs in the county must be on a leash not longer than 6 feet, at all times that the animal is off the property of the owner. Several land/home owners in the Arbuckle area have had to contend with irresponsible dog owners over a period of a year that do not and will not control or restrain their animals. This new ordinance will go into effect on May 5, 2011. With the acceptance of the new law Colusa County now joins other rural counties that have the same leash law i.e. Sutter, Butte, Merced, Yolo and San Luis Obispo. The ordinance, in it's entirety, will be posted on this site under Colusa County Animal Control tab when it goes into effect at the beginning of May.

Two county animal ordinances were updated and the proposals were given to county counsel last month for a legal review. The majority of the animal ordinances were created in 1949. We hope the new proposals will be introduced to the Board Of Supervisors in December.
